Abstract

This article is to discuss and try to resolve the following three questions related to the issue of interface between TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) and the studies on Chinese language ontology: what is the relationship of the two fields? what is the role of the modern linguistic theories in TCSL? and how does TCSL boost the theoretical construction and development of the language discipline? With the specific cases and abundant examples, the article offers supportive arguments and positive answers to the questions in order. In conclusion, it briefly states that, TCSL can and should interface with the studies on Chinese language ontology; and the significance of such discussion on this issue is to call teacher’s attention to his/her professional orientation, not only as a Chinese language teacher, but as a researcher as well. And it is also necessary to suggest the linguists to think over how to make use of their research achievements to support TCSL effectively. In the long run, the ultimate goal of the scientific studies and researches is practical application. Although this article is mainly focusing on TCSL, the idea and thoughts also apply to foreign language teaching as well.
