Abstract

The critical language intensive course is an eight-week short language course. The primary purpose is to train outstanding American college students to master global discourse power. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the critical language course transformed the course from an in-person to an online class. We use“Bischronous online learning” teaching to achieve the learning effect, synchronous and asynchronous online learning, and establish a partial immersion teaching environment. At the same time, we discuss the teaching concepts, course structures, teaching methods, teaching design, and teaching tasks of critical language intensive courses. In online teaching, the learner’s learning motivation is a success factor. Finally, we have suggestions and improvements for intensive courses, including teacher training, planning teaching materials, and methods.
